New York hotels are concentrated in Manhattan, but Brooklyn and the Financial District often offer more room for the money. Pick the area first, then compare hotels.
Best areas to stay
Midtown Manhattan
Closest to Times Square, Broadway and the main train stations. Best for a first visit.
Lower Manhattan
Financial District and Tribeca. Quieter evenings, good subway access, often calmer on weekends.
Williamsburg & DUMBO (Brooklyn)
Local feel, restaurants and skyline views, a short subway ride from Manhattan.
Upper West Side
Residential, next to Central Park and the big museums. A good fit for families.
Coffee & tea
The West Village and Greenwich Village are known for classic neighborhood cafés. Chinatown and Flushing are good for bubble tea and traditional tea houses.
Best time to go
April–June and September–November for mild weather. December is festive but busy.
Getting around
The subway covers almost everything. You do not need a car in Manhattan.
